25 Years Of Scorpion Control In Arizona

Mike Golleher celebrates 25 years of dedication in scorpion control, with a legacy of over 9,000 homes sealed for Arizona families

Scorpion Control Excellence With Barrier Integrity Principles & Building Performance Sealing: Celebrating Michael Golleher, The Force Behind Our Mission

In September 1999, a 19-year-old college student named Mike stepped into what would become a lifelong mission, one that would shape not just a career, but a local industry.

Born and raised in Arizona, the bark scorpion capital of the United States, Mike carried the discipline and grit he learned on the basketball court into his professional life. A standout athlete, in the basketball Hall of Fame for his school, he played at Tempe Union High School, Scottsdale Community College, and Grand Canyon University. What began as a side job sealing homes for his sister quickly grew into something larger: a calling that would define the standard of care for scorpion control in the Southwest.

The life of Michael Golleher

He’s Not a Technician, He’s a Master Craftsman

Ask any client who’s met Mike. They’ll tell you he’s not a “pest guy” or a “caulking tech.” He’s a protector, a guardian, a caretaker disguised as a contractor.

He’s the guy clients jokingly ask to move in until the scorpions are gone.

He’s also the one who helped pioneer the systems and standards that make Seal Out Scorpions what it is today. When we started, we were laughed at in the industry, misinterpreted and underestimated. But not by the clients we served. Today, we are what competitors quietly try (and fail) to replicate.

Mike isn’t just sealing houses. He’s solving complex problems at the intersection of building science, pest behavior, chemistry, weatherization, environmental factors, and client well-being. That’s why he’s one of the few in the country to hold certifications as a Building Analyst and Envelope Professional through the Building Performance Institute, with additional training in Integrated Pest Management at Purdue University.

In other words, Mike represents the highest level of home sealing expertise in Arizona, blending craftsmanship with science in ways no general pest control company can match.

The Birth Of Building Performance Sealing

Mike helped transform what was once contractor-style sealing and basic pest treatments into something radically more advanced: Building Performance Sealing.

In an industry with no licensing, no schooling, no recognized standards, and often reduced to “general contractor caulking,” Mike co-authored the framework that defined sealing as a professional discipline. Together with Georgia and William, he documented what had long been missing, a measurable, science-backed standard of care that integrated building performance, pest management, sealant chemistry, and human health.

Mike has personally worked on thousands of homes across Arizona, out of state and has even been called out of country for his expertise. His role in co-authoring Building Performance Sealing™ and the Pest Barrier Integrity Index (PBII™) means the standards he applies here are now adaptable to other pests, climates, and building types far beyond the Southwest.

Today, Building Performance Sealing is trademarked and codified as the benchmark in the field. With over 9,000 homes sealed since 1999, it represents both field-proven practice and the foundation for future credentialing.

Mike has been instrumental not only in applying the method, but in writing and refining it into a system others can now learn from. He became the go-to expert on difficult doors, impossible gaps, unusual pest patterns, and the quirks of construction materials across the desert. When we couldn’t find a reliable door expert, Mike became one. When we needed someone to lead the team on complex jobs, even out of state or country, Mike was always the force we sent.

He is, quite literally, the most skilled professional in the Southwest for scorpion control, and the craftsman others aspire to rise to.

Measuring The Standard: The Pest Barrier Integrity Index (PBII)

Great standards require great measurement. That’s why Mike also helped create the Pest Barrier Integrity Index (PBII).

Originally designed for scorpions, PBII is a rating system that evaluates how protected a home truly is, factoring in structural design, landscape, neighborhood context, sealing integrity, and pest management practices. It has since proven adaptable for rodents, insects, and regional pest pressures nationwide.

PBII gives families something they had never had before: a clear, evidence-based answer to the question, “How protected is my home?” Mike has been at the heart of this tool, ensuring clients gain clarity while contractors are held accountable to measurable outcomes.

Protector Of The Mission

Years ago, Mike once told me he didn’t want to seal homes for the rest of his life.

And for years, he didn’t realize that what he was doing was so much more than sealing homes. He was protecting families, calming fears, and helping people stay in Arizona when they thought they couldn’t. We’ve had clients tell us the work saved their marriage. That they finally feel safe enough to sleep at night. That they can let their baby crawl on the floor again.

When Mike shows up, results follow. It’s not just because he’s technically skilled, it’s because he’s loyal to the client’s goal and outcome. That mindset is rare. It’s also the reason we’re not just good at what we do… we’re in a category of our own.

Client Voices

“Our neighbors still fight scorpions, but not a single one has entered our home in 5 years. Mike is the best!”

“Seal Out Scorpions is the most honest and professional company I’ve worked with in many, many years. While the standards and values of most service-based businesses are in decline, SOS has taken the road less travelled and built a business on quality and integrity. They are a holistic solution, not just pest control. Watching these guys work, meticulous, methodical, leaving no crack unsealed, is incredible. They set the standard.”

“So glad we chose Seal Out Scorpions. The team, led by Mike, was very professional, extremely thorough, and a nice group of guys. They left our home super clean. Mike also gave us a valuable tutorial on maintaining a scorpion-free home. Highly recommend this company. A+++”

These verified Google reviews and many more stories capture what we already know: Mike is more than a technician, he’s a craftsman, a leader, and a trusted protector.

Who Is Mike?

Mike is the younger brother of Seal Out Scorpions founder, Georgia Clubb, and brother-in-law to William, who also helped establish the company as an early enforcer in the field. Today, William has stepped out of the field, while Mike continues to serve as a central figure in delivering excellence and training the next generation.

Beyond his professional role, Mike is the proud father of four children, with his eldest already eager to learn the family business and carry on the mission of scorpion control in Arizona homes. This year he will also become a first time Grandpa.

Looking To The Future

Mike’s impact won’t stop here. He’s a critical part of our next chapter, mentoring the next generation, refining systems, and continuing to expand the reach of Building Performance Sealing and PBII.

At 16 years younger than me, Mike will eventually carry the torch forward with the same grit and commitment we had in the early days and continue to have now. He’ll continue refining training, certifications, and systems to multiply the results we’ve spent decades perfecting, all while protecting what made Seal Out Scorpions so different and unique in the first place.

By doing so, Mike ensures that Arizona homeowners looking for trusted scorpion control and home sealing experts will always find Seal Out Scorpions leading the way.

What It Really Takes

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to build a company like Seal Out Scorpions, look at Mike.

It takes loyalty, grit, faith, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. It takes caring more about the client’s safety than your own convenience. It takes working to excellent standards when no one’s watching, studying when others coast, and pushing for better, always.

We’ve always said that scorpion control isn’t just about pests. It’s about homes. Families. Peace of mind. And no one embodies that more than Mike.

So here’s to 25 years, and to the man entering his 26th year this October, who has been instrumental in building a company unlike any other. One sealed home at a time, totaling over 9,000 and counting.
